Pleasant Estate
For those of you whose idea of life at its best is when they’re out exploring, tracking, climbing and splashing through the natural wonders of the world around them. Bubbling hot sulpur springs, sparkling rivers and forrested hills accentuate this 700 acre plantation. Pleasant Estate, is located in Gouyave in the parish of St. Johns. The estate is inhabited by lush vegetation, an abundance of tropical wild life with exotic birds and is now the largest remaining working estate in Grenada. Owned and managed by the Purcell family since 1961, Pleasant Estate is the largest producer of cocoa, nutmeg, organic cloves, cinnamon, bananas and citrus fruit on the island. Your journey will be no less fascinating as you step back in time to the estate’s colonial heritage. There is an unique plantation house (Great House) dating back to 1840. There are also large wooden trays filled with cocoa or nutmeg which are wheeled out on big iron rails into the sun to dry. Visitors have an opportunity to see the traditional methods used for preserving the produce on the estate and share in our heritage.
