Fedons Camp

In1795 Julian Fedon, a coloured Grenadian chosen by French undercover agents to lead a rebellion against the British. Fedon's coffee and cocoa plantation located in Belvedere, in the parish of St. John's, was an ideal spot for his headquarters. Chosen for its inaccessiblity. Fedon's objective was to remove the British from Grenada and free the enslaved. The attack started simultaneously in Grenville and Gouyave. Many slaves welcomed the opportunity of freedom and joined Fedon's army. The Rebellion lasted 15 months. Resulting in a massive loss of lives and was finally overthrown by the british military command led by General Nicholls.
