Maurice Bishop International Airport

The Grenada Airports Authority (The Authority) is a statutory organisation established on October 1985 by the Government of Grenada under the Grenada Airports Authority Act of 1985 and subsequently amended in 1998. The Act established the Authority as a corporate body with power to manage, control and supervise airports and to promote the use of such airports in the national interest.

At present the Authority is responsible for the management of three (3) airports in Grenada, namely:

Of the three (3) airports Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) and Lauriston Airport are operated on a daily basis.

The Authority's head office is located at Point Salines. From this location all administrative and maintenance support to its facilities are directed.

The airport is located 11 km (7 miles) from the capital St George’s (city centre) Point Salines, St. George's, Grenada, West Indies, P.O. Box 385.

The airport provides employment for approximately 160 workers directly employed with the GAA. The Airlines, Immigration, Customs, Shops and offices provide additional employment.

Airlines Serving Airport :From the UK, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Golden Caribbean – Monarch Airlines continue to service Grenada with weekly direct flights from London’s Gatwick Airport. 

In the US, American Airlines services Grenada with direct flights from Miami and connections via San Juan, Puerto Rico with American Eagle.  Air Jamaica services Grenada with direct flights from New York.

aircanadaIn Canada, Air Canada Vacations operates a weekly service from Toronto to Grenada during the winter season (December to April) with easy connections from Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa.  Year round, Air Canada and Caribbean Airlines operate regularly scheduled flights from Toronto and Montreal to Barbados and Trinidad respectively, with connections into Grenada via LIAT.

LIAT Airlines provides connections into Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport from many Caribbean islands along with connections to International flights from Antigua, Barbados, St Lucia and Trinidad.

Conviasa Airlines provides a twice-weekly service from Porlamar, Margarita, into Grenada.

SVG Air provides daily flights to/from Carriacou’s Lauriston Airport.

and American Airlines are part of the oneworld alliance of 10 of the world’s leading airlines.   Virgin Atlantic Airways partners with several international airlines including Air Jamaica to/from the UK.

Delta the world's largest airline will begin operations into Grenada this summer.

Delta Air Lines will commence scheduled service from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to the Maurice Bishop International Airport in St. George’s starting from June 5, .

The non-stop service departs JFK at 1:15 a.m. and arrives in Grenada at 6:05 a.m. with the return flight scheduled to depart at 7:15 a.m. and arriving in New York at 12:35 p.m. Delta will use its 737-800 aircraft which offers 16 First Class seats and 144 Coach Class seats.

The twice weekly service is expected to provide additional seats to the island which is already served by American Airlines from the United States; British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Monarch and Condor from Europe and Air Canada, Sky Service

Runway
The Runway System consist of two runways (10, 28) on one strip with both being LCN 86 asphalt surface.
The runways are equipped with airfield lighting systems for night operations.

Car Parking Facilities: 200 short-term parking spaces are available. There are several disabled parking spaces near the terminal building.

Crash, Fire and Rescue
(CFR) – The airport operates at a Category 9 status with a limited marine rescue capacity.

Central Generating System
(CGS) – Houses electrical generating equipment, which acts a back up in the event of failure of regular power supplies.

Executive Hangar
Situated to the west of the ATB. It has its own taxiway and apron. However, it is now used for the Cargo hub operation of Amerijet Int’l Inc.

Car Parking
The public car parking lot is situated northeast of the ATB with easy access to the Terminal. It has a capacity of approximately 200 cars.

Fuel Tank Farm
The Fuel Tank Farm is operated by Chevron West Indies Ltd. and provides for AV JET and AV Gas fuel. Storage capacity: 100’000AG (AVJET); 10’000AG (AVGAS)

Air Terminal Building
(ATB) – Constitute the main building within the airport complex. The ATB has a total of 89,358 sq feet, featuring five boarding gates, two departure lounges, VIP and First Class Facilities

Shopping and Catering Facilities
The airport has a number of shops in the departure lounge and in the public concourse offering duty free liquor, perfume, jewelry, crystal, craft etc. Restaurant and cafeteria facilities are also available.  
Airline catering service is provided by Goddard Caterers (Grenada) Ltd.

Security
The security unit is equipped with a modern X-ray scanner for the purpose of screening passengers and baggage entering the sterile area. The unit is also equipped with manually operated screening devices. CCTV is available. The Authority maintains a complement of full time security officers, together with the presence of officers from the Royal Grenada Police Force.
